Hello and welcome to our brand new
Merthyr Tydfil Metal Detecting Club website.

Ever since a young age I've always had an interest in metal detecting, after going out detecting with my uncle when I was very young. As I got older, I found the past history of Merthyr Tydfil to get more mysterious by the day, having read different historians books. About three years ago my girlfriend bought me a detector as a Christmas present. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who had been a fan of detecting in the past and he went and also bought one. We started going places once a week but I began having problems with my detector and I finally gave up with it. Also with work commitments and other issues I lost interest with it.

In early 2010, after speaking with a friend of a friend who was also a big detecting fan, I then had the urge to go detecting again. I bought myself a nice detector and never looked back. After talking with my mate he said we need to join a club so we can go on rallys. We scoured the internet, but the closest club was Gwent Metal Detecting club and at the time, they weren’t taking on any more members. So I thought to myself, 'why not start my own club up'. I am sure there are people who have found historic items of Merthyr’s past and they are just sitting in a box in the house. These could be on display at our local museum and thus rewriting our town’s history.

So it’s time to start rewriting the history books and finding out what did go on in our town. Hopefully this website and club will bring people together with the same interests and increase Merthyr's presence on the map. There’s stuff out there waiting to be found and we are the team to do it.    Anthony Thomas - Founder
